MEETING MINUTES:
June 8th 2002

Members attending the meeting included:   Richard Foerster,  Alan
Shoemaker,  Mac Shaver,  Don Evinger ,  Jim Lucha, Jeff Lasman, Craig Carignan  and Jerry, who was visiting our group for the first time.

New members, Iffiok Nsek , Ossil Macavinta, Dana Rodden, Mark DiNicolai,  Karl Pomroy, Joe Bruner, Eric Holland, and Eric Schwartz were unable to make this meeting.   

 

Also missing at this meeting were  Klaus Herzog, Todd Lyons, Dave Reisz, Gary Taylor, Ken Howels,  Hung Nguyen, Kandy Phan, Tad Peters, Isaac Saldana,  Forrest Sherman,  and  Jim Vassilakos.


Jim Lucha continued his presentation of the implementation of Linux at his work, focusing on the ROI side of the equation.   He stated that they had discovered that getting into compliance with respect to Microsoft Licensing would cost about $19,000.  Their solution was to switch to Open Office for most workstations augmented with 2 to 3 copies of Star Office at for users with special needs. 

Jim also announced that he is working on an “alternative software site” project and has asked members to submit articles  and information to be used there.   For information, contact him at: jim@boycottmicrosoft.net about it.

Jeff announced that he is looking for help in creating an open accounting project geared toward hosting services providers, and asked  for volunteers who would be working on this project with him.  

All-in-all the meeting was a great success, and we are looking forward to our next meeting on July 13th, 2002.
