Mike Karshner brought in an Alpha workstation that he had installed Red Hat Linux on but was later unable to get A-Boot or other techniques to get the system to boot-up. The group offered a number of suggestions, and it was determined that more specific information was required about the monitor to get the issue resolved.
Tom Nielsen, brought in his $200 salvaged laptop running Linux. He also offered a tip on getting a KVM, such as IOGEAR, 2 or 4 port digital KVM's to work with different mice. Alan Shoemaker has posted a mouse stanza at the LUGIE list, related to mouse configuration. Tom has written up the KVM tip and it is now available at our website, just click here.
Donna Schrokosch, introduced Ben Cooper to the group. Ben is working with Donna and then youngsters and grad students at the Hawthorne Center to build prototype modules for a *new* type of computer, based on a specialized type of memory. Both Gregg Rawson and Jeff Lesman are interested in and working on this project, with Donna and Ben. We hope to have an update of the progress on this project at the next meeting.
