NEWS FEATURE:

Install Fest takes on a smaller more personal feel.
On Saturday, March 27, 1999, a group of five Linuxers met at Richard Foerster's basement computer room in Redlands California.   Although there were actually no new installs of Linux performed, it was well worth the drive to interact with other Linux professionals, and see demonstrations of Samba and the KDE.   Hopefully, Paul Wear's questions re. Samba were answered.   And I was thoroughly impressed with the KDE GUI.   If there are further questions or comments re. these subjects or any others, please post a message to the IELUG mailing list at onelist.com.   Please see the Install Fest FAQ for more information.

MEETING MINUTES:

  1. It was agreed upon that a priority be to obtain a FBN/DBA (Fictitious Business Name/Doing Business As) so the group could open a bank account and start collecting dues.   This will provide the means to attract professional speakers, etc.   When we file an FBN we will place our ad in the newspaper with the lowest cost advertising.   Apparently, FBN's need to be renewed every five years.
  2. The question was asked whether or not we should file for FBN in both Riverside and San Bernardino counties.
  3. Currently, the club's officers are Fred Adorno (Founder) and Keith Reed (Co-Founder).
Richard Forester is Install Fest Coordinator
Albert Houts is Web Content Coordinator
    Mary Wior is Social Coordinator
  4. Next, the club will acquire a bank account.
  5. We will need to publish a By-Laws/Charter
  6. Eventually, we will need to hold elections
  7. It will be a requirement that we have consistent meetings.   UCR Extension has tentatively said that we could use a room on their campus, but couldn't commit to providing a computer lab.
  8. AGENDA ITEM FOR UPCOMING MEETING (June meeting): Side-By-Side desktop GUI evaluation/demonstration FVWM, KDE, GNOME, AfterStep...
